Tel Aviv: Yahalom. 1949. Paperback. First edition. Original paper wrappers. 8vo. 24 pages. 16cm. In Hebrew. Early Statehood period publication. Title translates to “Member of the Kibbutz. ” A promotional booklet for the Haver Ha-Kevutsot Movement, the first Kibbutz movement in Israel. The movement was established in 1925 and at the time of this booklet’s publication, contained 45 kibbutzim around Israel. The early kevu? Ot, distinguishable from kibbutzim, had small memberships based upon the idea that the community should be small enough to constitute a kind of enlarged family. During the post-WWI third Aliyah, when larger numbers of pioneering settlers arrived, Shlomo Levi and many others proposed the establishment of large, self-sufficient villages, combining agriculture with industry, for which the name "kibbutz" was used. Later, however, the distinction between the two terms almost disappeared. SUBJECT: Kibbutz movement. No copies on OCLC. Cover wrappers are… Read more
