Karlheinz Idelberger worked mainly in the field of hereditary pathology of malformations, the twin research and the symptoms of pathological changes of the spine and the shoulder joint. Other areas of work included the etiology and pathogenesis of congenital clubfoot and hip dysplasia, bone changes in leukemia, arthroplasty of the hip joint , prevention of sports injuries to the knee joint and the treatment of childhood bone tumors and poliomyelitis. His most important work was the textbook of orthopedics, which appeared in several editions from 1970.

The Ingoldsby legends were first printed in 1837 in Bentley's Miscellany and later in New Monthly Magazine. Their popularity with readers resulted in their being collected to a book which went under a number of editions. The stories themselves range from retellings of folktales, to original stories, however most of the legends are satirical takes on common legends and myths.
