J.A. Hill, New York, 1904. Later Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Near Fine Condition/No Dust Jacket. ILES, GEORGE. Flame, Electricity and the Camera, Man's Progress From the First Kindling of Fire to the Wireless Telegraph and the Photography of Color, New York: J.A. Hill, 1904. Octavo, edition de luxe of a 1900 release, pp. xv, 398, red cloth boards with gilt lettering a decoration on spine, gravure frontis of the author, top edge gilt, some leaves unopened, halftones and line drawings. An unusual approach to the history of photography, beginning with the discovery of fire and working in seemingly tangential inventions like the telegraph. Description:
no publisher, no place, 1955. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Fine Condition/No Dust Jacket. FRANCES IRVIN. Oyster Bay in History, an unpublished typescript, together with an autographed letter signed from Irvin to the Oyster Bay Historical Society, 1955. Quarto, pp. [ii], 176, orange cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine, with a letter turning this text over to the historical society "to do with as they may decide." This draft was eventually revised and published as Oyster Bay: A Sketch. The present book is a photocopy of Irvin's original, with text printed on only one side of each leaf. It is unknown to me why she turned this over to the society unfinished. She covers high points of this Long Island community, of course including its most famous resident, Theodore Roosevelt. Condition of this book: Fine, no flaws. Size: Quarto. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully… Read More
