This is a short booklet (22 p.), reproducing the text of a lecture given by John Ibbitson at the Osborne Collection of Early Children's Books, Lillian H. Smith Branch, Toronto Public Library, October 19, 2001. It also contains a brief foreword, providing background information on the lecture series and some biographical information about the author, John Ibbitson, a Canadian newspaperman and author of books for children. This copy looks new, with a crisp clean interior, and unmarked paper covers.

Garden City, NY: Doubleday & Co., 1981. First Edition . Hardcover. Good/Good. This is a stated first edition. The book is ex-library, but lightly so. It has a small ownership stamp on the front free end paper, and the remains of a pocket and "discarded" stamp on the rear free end paper. The paper shows light wear and occasional smudges that indicate previous use. The laminated covers are bright, with moderate wear and rubs at edges and corners. The dust jacket is price-clipped, with wear and rubs at the edges. Howver, it doesn't have a spine sticker, and looks attractive in its new removeable mylar cover. The attached scan gives a better idea of condition. Synopsis: A picture book about a young girl and her animal friends that introduces children to camouflage in nature. :Tigers, zebras, cows, giraffes, leopards, snakes and many more animals parade through the book, disappearing in one moment only to reappear the next.

London: Hampster Books. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. The interior of the book is crisp and clean, There is presentation plate for good school work (1960), but no other marks or wear. The pictorial covers are fresh, with very light bumps at the top and bottom of the spine, but little wear else. The dust jacket is not price-clipped, and is also in excellent condition. The jacket (repeats the cover artwork) is now in a protective plastic cover, and looks great.

Boston & New York: Lothrop, Lee & Shepard, 1938. Hardcover. Very Good/Good +. The interior of the book is crisp and clean, showing no marks or wear. The blue and beige covers are fresh, with just a bit of wear at tips and corners. The dust jacket is in Good condition, with some noticeable edgewear, and neat mends on the back. The attached scan gives a better idea of condition. The jacket is now in a protective mylar cover. Synopsis: This is the story of Flopsy Moore's trials, tribulations and triumphs during her Sophmore year at Alexander Hamilton High.

Collingwood, ON: Huron Institute, 1939. Hardcover. Very Good -/No Jacket. The interior of the book is crisp and clean, with no marks or wear. The front fixed end paper has Louis Blake Duff's bookplate. The burgundy covers are fresh, with light wear only. A nice copy.

New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1969. Hardcover. Very Good -. The interior of the book is clean and fresh, showing light wear only. The covers are in good plus condition -- very good condition overall, but with small rubs at the corners where cardboard shows through the laminate. The 3-D panel on the front cover is in place and in excellent condition, and the original price-sticker ($1.49) is still on the front cover. Please note that the panel does not reproduce well in the attached scan, but this is a problem with the scanner, not the 3-D panel.
