(7.7 x 5.4 inches). 336pp. No publisher on title page, just the date year printed on the verso and a stuck in paper label of Caves Book Co. on rear blank free endpaper. The title page has the title, author name and blurb 'at this point, it looked like curtains for james bond; he was skimping on his work, gambling, wenching, and on the edge of becoming a security risk' (sic). Blue cloth binding with silver lettering to the spine. Publishers sewn-in blue silk bookmark. The dustwrapper is printed in blue to the front panel, showing Bond holding his gun, between lettering and a target design. Spine lettered in blue. No other printing to the wrapper. ----- A rare curiosity.

Bound without the half title otherwise complet,e with Errata leaf and all 1st state text points, including"Shewed" and "shew" on p.40, "capatin" on p.324, and "if" missing from p.426, among others. Also illustrated with 40 engraved plates by Browne (including Frontispiece and first state illustrated title page showing Captain Cuttle's hook incorrectly on his left arm). A very good copy with the usual browning to the edges of plates but still generally a nice copy. Finely bound in attractive early half rburgundy morocco. Spine with raised bands. Compartments double ruled and elaborately decorated in gilt. Marbled paper on boards and endpapers.Previous owners neat inked name on front free blank endpaper. Edges of binding rubbed and bumped and boards a bit worn but still overall a very good attractive copy.

(10.6 x 7.3 inches). 44pp. Illustrated with 12 striking full page wood engraved plates, comprising the title, the ten commandments and the greatest commandment, by Braby. Limited edition of 1025 copies on mould made paper, with only 1000 for sale. Finely bound by Bayntun-Riviere in attractive full red polished calf binding. Spine with two raised bands, each decorated with a gilt dot. Compartments lettered, ruled and decorated in gilt. Single gilt ruled border on boards. Turn-ins with decorative floral gilt tooling. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. With the leather Beeleigh Abbey bookplate of W. A. Foyle on the front pastedown endpaper. Some cracking to the hinges, both still firm and tight, and minor rubbing to the extremities, but overall a lovely, highly attractive volume.

(2 of the last 2 leaves, 4T & 4Ti have been bound in. One in the correct place at the end of the text and again, randomly, in the middle of one of the Poems on several occasions). Illustrated with 20 full page copper engraved plates, including 3 portraits as the frontispiece for each volume, plus 17 fine illustrations by Francis Hayman, each with some offsetting to the page opposite. Neat contemporary previous owners names to the top of the title pages and rear of frontispieces. Some minor foxing to the margins of a few pages, and darker offsetting to 2 leaves where a previous owner had inserted a fern leaf, otherwise a very good set which has been finely bound in recent full speckled brown calf. Finely illustrated with Twenty Eight engravings, some full page, by Mahoney in Oliver Twist, Thirty four by Barnard in Sketches by Boz. Attractive early leather binding of half black calf. Spine with raised bands, each with gilt floral design. Compartments ruled in gilt and decorated with blind stamped chain borders and floral centre tool. Red and olive morocco labels, ruled and lettered in gilt. Marbled paper on boards. Tan endpapers. Some offsetting to both free endpapers, probably a reaction to the glue used in the paste-downs. All edges speckled. Some minor rubbing to extremities but overall this is a lovely copy in a fine Victorian binding.

Original publishers cloth boards with gilt stamped illustration showing Christopher Robin playing with a toy train on front board, and Pooh and Piglit at the train ticket (tikits) office on the back, along with the spine, all bound in at back of the book. Neat previous owners bookplate on the front blank endpapers and neat presentation inscription on blank leaf opposite. A fine set in highly attractive mid twentieth century leather bindings by Sangorski & Sutcliffe. Finely bound in half dark blue morocco. Spines with raised bands, decorated with gilt piping. Compartments ruled, decorated and lettered in gilt. Blue cloth on boards. Top edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. A fine set of this wonderfully illustrated edition. The books are undated but Geofrey Beare's bibliography of W. Heath Robinson dates this edition to 1913 and is a smaller version of the magnificent large format 1904 Grant Richards edition. (Beare #35c).

Top edge gilt, the others untrimmed. Marbled endpapers. A fine and handsome volume.

Illustrated with 8 fine full colour plates plus 18 black and white line illustrations throughout the text. A very good, bright and clean copy. Publishers beige boards with colour plate mounted to front panel. Beige cloth spine lettered in dark brown. In the rare original colour printed dustwrapper. Aside from some minor bumping to the corners of the boards and a few small chips to edges of the dustwrapper (the worst chip, at the bottom of the spine, just shaves off the top of the J in the title) this is a lovely copy of this scarce title.

(9 x 6.7 inches).16 colour plates, each with a printed tissue paper guard, by Charles Brock (4 scenes from the story), and Charles Brittain (12 views of Exmoor and environs). A Fine copy in a fine leather binding by Bain of London. Half dark blue morocco, spine with raised bands, ruled in gilt. Compartments tooled and lettered in gilt. Blue cloth on boards. Marbled endpapers. Top edge gilt. Loosely inserted is a hand written letter from J. G. Bain, on company headed notepaper dated Christmas 1925, presenting this book to a customer. An interesting and beautiful edition with the plates showing not just characters from the tale but also views of the towns, villages and views around Exmoor that act as a backdrop for the novel.:

Methuen & Co ltd. London. 1931. FIRST SHEPARD EDITION. 8vo. (7.3 x 5 inches). The 38th edition overall, this is the first time the story was published with Shepard`s beautiful line drawings. A little light foxing to just a few pages but overall a very good copy, finely bound, by Riviere Bookbinder of Bath, in early half dark blue calf. Spine with five raised bands, each with gilt piping. Compartments lettered and ruled in gilt. Navy blue cloth on boards. All edges Marbled. Blue marbled endpapers. School prize plate from Charterhouse on the front pastedown endpaper, dated 1932, signed by Frank Fletcher, the headmaster and presented to G. C. Riall. School arms stamped in gilt to the front board. The spine fo the book is rubbed and darkened but still an attractive copy of the lovely book.

Two colour illustrations by Whistler within the book plus colour decoration on boards showing three men cowering behind a wine barrel. Both pastedown endpapers browned by the binders glue, as usual. Some light creasing to the very top of the spine but generally a fine bright copy.

Macmillan and Co. London. 1891. FIRST THOMSON EDITION, Large paper issue. One of only 300 copies issued. Large 8vo. (10.5 x 7.4 inches). Illustrated throughout with 101 fine line drawings by Thomson. Finely bound by Cedric Chivers of bath in early twentieth century binding of full plum morocco. Spine with raised bands, the compartments ruled, decorated and lettered in gilt. Decorative line and floral design to both boards. Board edges double ruled in gilt. Mottled coloured endpapers. Turn ins with double ruled lines and floral design. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Two previous owner bookplates on the front paste down endpaper. A little fading to the spine but overall a very near fine copy.

R. Ackermann. London. ND.,circa 1832. EARLY EDITION. 8vo. xii,280pp. (6.9 x 4.1 inches). Inscribed by Author to the front free endpaper; " Presented to Miss L. Lions, by her humble servant, the Author". The published date has been carefully removed from the title page. The book was first published in 1831 and this copy is strictly contemporary with that edition but i am guessing that the date was removed so that it could not be easily identified as a reprint. Finely illustrated with Rowlandson's fantastic plates. A very good clean copy with a couple of the gatherigs sprung a little. In the publishers illustrated paper covered boards which are heavily rubbed and worn to the corners. Re-spined with plain dark green cloth. Overall not the best of copies but uncommon with Harrison's inscription.:

A fine clean copy. Finely bound in mid twentieth century half dark blue morocco leather binding for Hatchards Ltd of Piccadilly, London. Spine with five raised bands, each with gilt piping. Compartments ruled and lettered in gilt. Blue cloth on boards. Marbled endpapers. Top edge gilt. Previous owners bookplate, dated 1948, on front blank free endpaper. Some minor fading to the very top of the cloth on the boards but overall a near fine, highly attractive copy of this Victorian classic.

A handful of pages with a light brown mark to the bottom of the page, otherwise a fresh and clean copy, finely bound in recent full dark blue morocco. Spine with raised bands, the compartments ruled and decorated in gilt. Twin black morocco labels, ruled and lettered in gilt. Single gilt ruled border on boards. Top edge gilt. A lovely copy of this classic.

Macmillan & Co. London. 1984. TWO VOLUMES. FACSIMILE EDITIONS. 8vo, (7.4 x 5.2 inches). Both volumes Illustrated throughout, with forty and fifty line engravings respectively, by John Tenniel. First printings of these facsimile editions of the original first editions of 1866 and 1872. Bound in publishers delux leather bindings of full deep red morocco, reproducing the original bindings. Triple gilt ruled borders on boards and circular illustrations to the centre of the panels. Spines with ruled lines to the top and bottom and lettering, all in gilt. Black coated endpapers. All edges gilt. Aside from a tiny rub to the top of the spine on Through the Looking glass these are in fine condition. Macmillan issued these two facsimile editions in 1984 in cloth bindings and these much scarcer leather versions.

Macmillan and Co. Limited. London. 1898. FIRST SIXPENNY EDITIONS. 8vo. (8.4 x 6 inches). Both volumes are the first printings of the Macmillan sixpenny series. Illustrated with forty two and fifty line illustrations, respectively, by John Tenniel. Publishers original red printed paper wraps. Page edges a bit chipped, as to be expected with the cheap paper used in production, and a little toned but overall these are very good internally. The front paper wraps for both volumes and only the rear for Alice are present. Both paper spines have perished. Ink stamp of previous owner to the front wrapper of each volume. While not the most attractive example, these two First printings of the sixpenny series are a rare survivor with their original fragile wraps and not in too bad condition for 1898 paperback Children's books.

A few minor marks to a handful of pages but overall a very good, clean copy in a fine leather binding. Recent full deep red morocco binding, gilt decorative borders on boards. Spines with raised bands, compartments decorated with gilt stamps of The Mad Hatter and playing cards. All edges gilt. Original publishers burgundy cloth boards, with gilt ruled lines and circular central illustrations, are bound into the back of each volume and show some rubbing and wear but are generally in fair condition. An attractive and early edition of this classic, published the year after the first published edition.
