Author was naturalist to the expedition, illustrated by C. Whymper from the author's original sketches, with new map and facsimile letter, 99 illus. as called for, appendices I-XI, MAP OF RIVER CONGO, from Stanley Falls to Kassongo, at end of volume is in two parts, first part a single sheet (rough on one edge and thus may have section missing, not certain) and second part folds out and appears complete. Both are in color. 455pp. Pictorial black, brown, white and gilt embossed green cloth. Spine beginning to show wear at head and tail. Hinges are cracked but holding and book is tight with clean pages.
