Slight darkening to the head and tail of the spine and a short closed tear (and accompanying crease) to the bottom left hand corner of the rear panel still a lovely VG++ D/W. Exceedingly uncommon. She was a close friend of J L Carr who has written a 20-line inscription: "For Leila who like Steeple Sinderby, performed a feat beyond belief by writing a real story for very young children at (to fall back on school jargon) stage one of learning to read. Instead of beginning Here is Nip. This is Nip. Nip is a dog it boldly ordered Dad, Dad get out of bed which once I read to two boys. One whose Dad worked in a bank said He wouldnt get up because the rain fell on his head. The other, recognizing a glimpse of his own life was too convulsed wigth glee to answer. Jim.
