Illustrated by Fritz Winkler, who also contributes the cover drawing of Jan Conte. With glossary. Illegible ink inscription and two b/w snapshots tipped onto title page. The first edition of Smelik's work on sea tramps. A unique copy which has two small b/w snapshots of a sea tramp tipped onto the title page, both picturing him sprawled out onto a sidewalk alongside a faithful dog. The man in the photograph strongly appears to be the model for the Conte drawing on the cover of the book. Klaas Smelik was a communist, a contributor to De Tribune, and a member of the Arbeiders-Schrijverscollectief Links Richten who had been a sailor and wrote a couple of other books about sea life. Amsterdam: Fanatic, 1976. 4to, [6] pp, saddle-stapled in illustrated card wraps. Text in Dutch. Ilustrated throughout. Designed by Willem de Ridder. This special (and last) issue of the Fanatic is taken up with a long open letter to Louis Ferron, by the writer and translator Susan Janssen, attacking the Dutch literary scene, epsecand specifically defending Celine and Ezra Pound. The back cover is illustrated with a photograph of the author at home by her husband, William Levy. Very good with some light toning and creasing, and a bump to upper margin resulting in a small tear to the paper. Scarce.

Iowa City, IA: Stone Wall Press, 1969. First edition. 8vo, 55 pp, letter press printed and bound in brown boards with printed spine label. No dust jacket as issued. One of 260 copies. Johnson's first book, published many years in advance for the novels which would make him one of the most important writers of the last quarter of the 20th century. A slight touch of fading to the extremities of the boards, a bit of dustiness to the cloth and spine label, and a tiny bump to head of front panel, but near fine.

Detroit: In Camera, 1986. First edition. 4to, warps. Inscribed by the poet at the title page. With cover and internal illustrations by Cay Bahnmiller. A book of poetry by the editor of the great little mag Southpaw. Very good.
