Catalogue for an exhibition of paintings by Yang Jie-Chang (b. 1956), which took place at Galerie Jeanne-Bucher in Paris from December 30, 1990, to January 26, 1991. Featuring an artist's statement by Yang, an introduction by Jean-François Jaeger, and numerous plates of his black ink paintings. Scarce: no other copies in commerce (May 2021). CONDITION: Some soiling, rubbing, and sunning to wrappers but internally clean, bright, and unmarked. Very Good or better.

It's fiction but it's based on true historical accounts, which explains the presence of a bibliography. This book was winner of the PEN/Faulkner Award and a Pulitzer Prize finalist, both in 2005.
CONDITION: Fine in a Fine dust jacket that, by design, is noticeably smaller than the book itself. A very attractive copy.

A spirited -- rollicking, even! -- essay, with attacks on "fakers," "impostors," "swindlers," and other enemies of the working class. May Day is the true holiday of the proletariat, the author says, while Labor Day in the U.S. is fake because it "sticks to the hollow pretense of a brotherhood between capital and labor..." Issued by the radical Socialist Labor Party, the pamphlet argues that American labor leaders have eagerly embraced the capitalist class. "The 'labor' leaders travel through the country in the grandest style, stop at the 'swellest' hotels--often as not, manned with non-union labor. Where they go, liquor flows expensively and plentifully--sometimes swinishly." (page 30) The author, Olive M. Article decrying sea power. "Sea power is a device for doing injury at a distance," says the author, president of Stanford University. This article originally appeared in the New York Independent in July, 1911, and is republished here by the World Peace Foundation. Textbook publisher Edwin Ginn established the foundation in 1910. SIGNED and numbered 36/70 by Joseph Beuys on the front cover. A rare collection of the first year of Pour, a radical/anarchist, French-language magazine in Brussels, for 1973-74. Beuys was a supporter of Pour and sometimes raised money on behalf of the magazine, which at first appeared twice monthly and then became a weekly. The cover is stamped in German and English with the contact details for Beuys's organization in Düsseldorf, the Organization for Direct Democracy Through Referendum.
The collection begins with a prospectus, laying out the aims of the magazine as well as details on circulation and financing. That's followed by the 29 issues published during the first year, each containing 8 pages, with the exception of a 16-page special issue.
