Description:
London: Macmillan, 1894, 1895. First Edition, First Printing. The First Printings of both books, with copyright and title pages dated 1894 on The Jungle Book, and 1895 on The Second Jungle Book, both with no subsequent printings listed. This London Edition preceded the American Edition, and is the most desirable printing of this book. Original publisher's blue cloth, lettered and decorated in gilt. These are housed in an early morocco leather, custom slipcase, which has been designed to look like two leather bound Jungle books, as shown. The two leather books are actually only the front facade of the slipcase, and has a removable top, which reveals an internal fixed chemise mounted within the slipcase. There is a removeable felt divider between the two books, and they both fit snug inside, but will be wrapped for shipping. Near Very Good… Read more

New York: Charles Scribner's & Son, 1909. The Writings in Prose & Verse of RUDYARD KIPLING. Bound in quality morocco leather bindings. Gilded spines. Raised hubs. The top edges are gilded. Marbled end papers. Printed on quality rag style paper. Wide margins. Frontisplates protected in tissue. 8.5 inches tall. Approximately 34 inches of shelf space. In good condition only, overall consistent with that grade, with spine wear and chips as shown. General usage wear and rubs. Most hinges reattached with archival materials. Internally very fresh, bright, and clean. Near free of any trace of foxing. No writing. Despite the wear, this is a nice antiquarian set. Has the introduction to the Outward Bound Edition, but no indication that this is that edition, likely that it is not. The title pages with the seal with the lotus and svastika symbols represent the elephant-headed God Ganesha, the God of auspicious beginnings (with special relation to books). The Svastika is the symbol or invocation of… Read more
