Sometimes, a combination of the two: "Offbeat sex participants are courted as talk show interviews; once they would have hid in the dark. There are more variations than there are candy bars."A native of Chicago, the poet is a former newspaperwoman and marketing agency owner. She is the daughter of immigrants; her mother was born in Poland; her father in ByeloRussia. Illustrations by Donald J. Anderson, who was a well-known illustrator in Chicago. A former U.S. intelligence officer maintains the Western powers aren't doing enough to rid Germany of Nazi influence in the immediate aftermath of World War II. He also criticizes anti-Soviet bias of U.S. military and government officials.
CONDITION: A few small ink smudges on preliminary pages, presumably from an ink stamp to the title page. Some light sunning to page edges. The unclipped dust jacket has some edge wear and a few nicks and chips. A Near Fine copy in a Very Good dust jacket.

SIGNED by Lester Cole on a preliminary page. Cole (1904-1985) was a screenwriter and one of the Hollywood Ten, men who refused to answer questions in Congress about their alleged Communist affiliations. The book, sympathetic to the Ten, tells their story. Foreword by Thomas Mann. SCARCE SIGNED.
CONDITION: Some rubbing to boards, very light toning to page edges, light soiling to top and bottom edges. A Very Good copy in an unclipped dust jacket that has some nicks and tears as well as heavy soiling, especially to the rear panel, and fading to spine.

INSCRIBED on the title page: "For Jack, all best, Paul Kahn." A collection of poems. SCARCE. CONDITION: Staples rusty, slight soiling to wrappers but internally bright and unmarked. San Francisco: Stolen Paper Review Editions, 1966. Later printing. Collection of four psychedelic erotic poems by Leonore Kandel (1932-2009) that led to an obscenity trial. This is a later printing of the First Edition, with a blue overprinting to the figures on the front cover. In May 1967, a jury in San Francisco found the book obscene and fined booksellers from the Psychedelic Shop and City Lights. Perhaps not surprisingly, that only made the book more popular. By the end of May, sales of The Love Book "had skyrocketed from a few dozen to at least twenty thousand." (Joy Lanzendorfer in The New Yorker, October 13, 2023). The verdict was overturned in 1971. PHYSICAL DETAILS: Octavo, 6 leaves, printed rectos only, in stapled, brown illustrated wrappers, blue overprinting to the Shiva-like figure and naked woman on the front cover (soft cover). Catalogue of paintings by Zhu Tianmeng (b. 1962 in Shanghai), an artist living in Brussels. With an introduction by poet and novelist Jack Keguenne (in French, translated into English). Published in 1999, the catalogue displays abstract works from 1996-1998. Biography, list of exhibitions, and details about paintings in English. SCARCE. CONDITION: Some sunning and soiling along the spine. Very Good or better.

Biographical essays of some politicians and economists: Lloyd George, Bonar Law, Churchill, Trotsky, Malthus, Marshall, etc. Eight black-and-white plates, separated by tissue guards. One of Keynes's more interesting essays is about Trotsky, who had written "Where Is Britain Going?" Keynes is scathing: "Its dogmatic tone about our affairs, where even the author's flashes of insight are clouded by his inevitable ignorance of what he is talking about, cannot commend it to an English reader." Articles include a look at German films under Hitler; children's theatre in Moscow; the final installment of a three-part essay by the great Soviet director Sergei Eisenstein; the Los Angeles WPA project; union busting in Hollywood; and reviews and commentary. Striking cover illustration by William Gropper. The editor, Herbert Kline (1909-1999), was a documentary film maker. Issues of New Theatre are increasingly scarce in the market. A collection of dramatic works by Kenneth Koch (1925-2002), mostly featuring plays but also including films. Koch was a well-known poet closely associated with the New York School of poetry, so this volume represents an interesting insight into his theatre and film works. With a fabulous, stunning dust jacket designed by artist Larry Rivers. CONDITION: Pages heavily toned, as usual with this volume, some soiling to cloth edges and to end papers. A Very Good copy in a Very Good dust jacket that has some creases to both the front and rear flaps. Original price of $6.95 intact on front flap.

An anthology of poems published by Black Rabbit Press, an important player in Cleveland's underground mimeo and poetry scenes. It features works by (in order of appearance): Art Beck, Gael Turnbull, Kurt Nimmo, Bert Meyers, Jake Leed, Kent Taylor, Alexis Rotella, Naomi Shihab Nye, Kell Robertson, Ted Kooser, and d.a. levy. Black Rabbit Press was an imprint of T.L. (Tom) Kryss, who has contributed some illustrations (although uncredited). Hong Kong: City Hall Museum and Art Gallery, 1966. First Edition, First Printing. Scarce catalogue in Chinese and English on Chinese painter Su Jen-Shan (1814-1849). Explanatory text by Lee Kwok-wing, followed by 18 black-and-white illustrations of Su's works. He was especially fond of landscapes and often painted Buddhist and Taoist deities and mythical sages. This catalogue was issued for an exhibition of paintings and calligraphy by Su Jen-shan in August-September 1966.
