This Youth's Companion has been very well kept and is clean, tight and unmarked with minimal toning (a bit more at the edges) and a faint crease across the middle. It contains "How Patriot Decorated" by Bates, "At an Army Post" by a Beckett among many other stories and serials, fact and fiction. It contains many great period ads. It has pp: 273 - 284. It has pictorial wraps with a manly soldier in kepi amid a sea of flowers and a very small name on the front.

New York: Selmar Hess, 1894. First Edition First Printing . Soft cover. Good/No Jacket. Folio - over 12 - 15" tall. Ingres Pinxit, Cederstron Pinxit, et al.. These 7 large (12" x 9.75"0 pamphlets are basically, clean, tight, square and internally unmarked, but the names of the "prominent personages" presented are written across the top margins of the front wrap. The wrap are rubbed, more so at the yapped edges, age darkened (or sunned) and a few have split spines. They contain pp: 217-360, 385-408, clear, glossy pages illustrated with black & white plates (some tissue guarded) bound in light blue wraps with black titles and designs. The characters detailed are Frederic the Great, Napoleon Bonaparte, Duke of Wellington,Tecumseh, Oliver Perry,Winfield Scott, Garibaldi, among many others. They are undated, but 1894 is the accepted publication date for these series which were sold by subscription only.

This book is tight, square and internally unmarked, but there is a 1905 gift inscription on the ffep (which we have used to date the book). It has 48, clean, bright, glossy pages extensively illustrated with black & white drawings in a one-quarter binding with gilt titles. The boards are white with an oval color vignette against a field of pink flowers on the front.

New York: Townsend Mac Coun, 1887. Hardcover. Good+/No Jacket. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. This book was originally owned by Georgina Lewis (Oct. 15-1888) and she signed it thus on the front free end paper. The book was subsequently used in 1916-1917 by three of her sons at their various schools and they signed it, added the name of their school and a date. The author, historian genealogist Frederic Lewis Weis in 1917 and his brothers Richard Clapp Weis in 1917 and Francis Wilson Weis in 1916. Otherwise, the book is clean, tight, square and unmarked. It is lightly bumped/rubbed, more so at the ends of the spine which are mildly frayed. It has decorative end papers and 213, bright, clear pages (some earlier pages are lightly foxed) extensively illustrated with color maps and plates. The boards are covered with red brown cloth with black titles on the spine and front.

There is a book plate of Sit Galahad on the ffep and the top inch or so is missing, on the rear of the frontispiece there is a book plate and a pertinent note (King Arthur 520, Thomas Mallory 1470, William Caxton 1477). It is illustrated with glossy, black & white plates. The boards are covered in red cloth decorated in black with scroll work, shields and banners. They are lightly rubbed, mainly at the edges. The titles are in gold boxes on the spine and front. It has 403 pages plus ads.
