Oxford: Oxford at the Clarendon Press, 1938. Hardcover. Very Good. pp 656 A comprehensive history of 19th century Britain and its relations with the colonies and Europe. Bound in blue cloth, very good, covers rubbed to spine ends, hinges starting to crack but the binding is firm, complete with six fold out maps. This book comes from the private collection of British Prime Minister Harold Wilson and his wife Mary who died recently at the age of 102. During his lifetime Harold Wilson kept the book in the Ashley Gardens mansion flat in Westminster that the couple shared until his death in 1995. After she lost her husband Mary Wilson continued to live in the couple's flat, surrounded by a lifetime's accumulation of books and memories until 2016. Very Good 1938

Good. pp 589-602 An article signed by its author E L Bruce on the iron formations of Lake Superior, and the countries of Brazil, India, Russia and South Africa. This offprint is signed in the top right hand corner of the front cover - 'Wth the compliments of E L Bruce'. Good plus, the text is complete and clean and bound in the original printed brown card wrappers. This forms part of a large quantity of natural historical pamphlets recently acquired by Modernfirsteditions. Good 1945

London: Fulham & Hammersmith Historical Society Archaeological Section, 1973. 220 x 143 mm. Very Good. Short paper collating work resulting from observations of building sites by members of the society 1971 -73. We have recently acquired the library of Harry Horlock Stringer who was a leading British potter at the old Fulham Pottery in the 1950's where he concentrated on earthenware. Later he moved to Taggs Yard in Barnes, south west London, where he built and ran his own school, welcoming pupils and making friends such as Ginger Rogers from across the world at a time when studio pottery was enjoying newfound popularity. Stringer experimented with his own glazes and firing techniques, and wrote a book on Raku, becoming a Fellow of the Craft Potters Association, editing the association's journal for a time and exhibiting widely as well as lecturing at home and abroad. Winchester: Warren and Son Limited, 1915. Hardcover. Very Good. 62 [2] Adverts, Gatefold Map Leatherbound guide to the Anglo Saxon architecture of Sussex with three interesting manuscript letters from the author laid in. The letters were written during January and February of 1919 to M I Bates, author of 'Blyth Past and Present'. In his first letter Jessep acknowledges the gift of Bates' 'little book' about the Nottinghamshire village. Written on Ordnance Survey headed notepaper Jessep discusses the disruption by the war of his plans for more county guides to Anglo-Saxon architecture. In the second letter Jessep touches on Heysham in Lancashire and and discusses St Patrick's Chapel there as well as Blyth Upper School. The sequence of letters is lively and informative with Jessep mentioning a series of other correspondents including the author of 'Highways and Byways in Nottinghamshire'. Very good in green card wrappers, lightly soiled, internally fine. Provenance: from the recent Glasgow dispersal sale of Alasdair Gray's library. Gray (1934-2019) is acknowledged as one of the most innovative figures in Scottish literature and culture. Painter, novelist, playwright, poet and editor, Gray frequently combined his diverse artistic talents within single works to challenge existing forms. Michel Levy Freres, 1854. Beautifully bound in straight grain red morocco with a black spine label and gilt decoration, all edges gilt. Marbled endpapers and tiny oval green bookseller's ticket of 'P Rolande Foreign Bookseller...' Browning to endpapers, otherwise near fine. A lovely copy.

London: John Murray, 1963. Hardcover. Very Good. First trade edition with an original drawing by Osbert Lancaster on the first blank. Executed in pencil underdrawing and black pen overdrawing it shows an opera singer in full flow with the slogan attached to a bouquet of flowers: 'To Liz wishing her every success with her operatic career from Osbert L.' The book is near fine in a good jacket with slight loss at the head of the spine, not price-clipped. Very Good 1963
