9 March 1816. 4 x 9 inches, some old repairs to verso, of good appearance. Jane Jackson (1776-1858), first appeared at a London concert on 25 April 1798, and sang as Miss Jackson at the Concert of Ancient Music in 1800. That same year she married the composer Francesco Bianchi; while Mrs Bianchi she often sang at Windsor in the presence of George III and Queen Charlotte. She and Bianchi soon separated, he died in 1810, and she married William Lacy, bass singer, in 1812, singing as Mrs Bianchi Lacy until 1815. Considered one of the finest interpreters of Handel as well as a good pianist and painter, she was noted for her grand, simple style and perfect delivery of Italian. Through her friendship with R.M. Bacon, portions of Bianchi’s celebrated manuscript theory treatise were published in early volumes of the Quarterly Musical Magazine.

Undated. 2 pp. 6 x 4 inches, in good condition. Uncommon. Ebenezer Landells (1808 –1860), wood-engraver, illustrator, and magazine proprietor, was apprenticed to the wood-engraver Thomas Bewick. In 1829 he moved to London, and before long managed to start his own engraving workshop. After attempting a short-lived fashion journal, Cosmorama, he joined with the journalist Henry Mayhew and the printer William Last to found Punch in 1841. Initial difficulties forced Landells to sell his one-third share to the publishers Bradbury and Evans: after the new owners replaced Landells with Joseph Swain as engraving chief, Landells responded with a pamphlet A Word with Punch (1847). Landells was also involved in several other magazines: the less successful Illuminated Magazine (1843–35), Great Gun (1844, in imitation of Punch), the Lady's Newspaper (1847–63, after which incorporated in the Queen), Diogenes (1853, another attempt to imitate Punch), and the Illustrated Inventor.
