Description:
[Salt Lake City]. Color poster [61 cm 46 cm] / [24" x 18"] in nice condition. Inscribed and dated by Lake with a sharpie in the lower left corner of the image. Randall Lake is a Utah based artist with a studio in the Guthrie Building in Salt Lake City, and a studio home in Spring City, Utah. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and is held in private collections and museums the world over. He has won numerous awards and accolades. "My paintings are painted from life, I dislike working from photographs because the photographic image is so static and unchanging that one ends up copying the material rather than interpreting. There is nothing like painting on location for that chemistry bred of urgency, of wanting to get it right, of struggling to capture the momentary, and of having to discern what is essential and what is not." - Randall Lake.

Definitive and classic work on the Bent Brothers' oasis on the Arkansas River, that was the stop along the Santa Fe Trail, and for decades the only stop between Kansas City and Santa Fe. The Bents were some of the first traders in this land roamed (and claimed) by many (Spanish, American, Cheyenne, Arapahoe and French), and predated Brigham Young in the west by a decade and a half. "Charles and William Bent, recently displaced from the Missouri River by the Violent trade wars to control its commerce. Here on the borders of a foreign land they found a field for a fresh start. Together with Ceran St. Vrain, a man who knew the Mexicans well, they built a vast mud castle that Mexico came to fear far more than she had its mythical predecessor. There was reason. For here was the spearhead of American expansion to the Southwest." - from… Read More

[Salt Lake City]: University Services Corporation, 1992. 208pp. Quarto [26 cm] White blind stamped cloth. Near fine/Near fine. Profusely illustrated work on the Salt Lake Temple. Forty years of effort and sacrifice to build the Salt Lake Temple concluded on April 6, 1893, the last day of the Church's annual conference, when President Wilford Woodruff dedicated the edifice. The Associated Press carried news of the dedication over its wire service, and newspapers from the New York Times on the East Coast to the Los Angeles Times on the West Coast ran stories about the completion of Mormonism's most important symbol. "Thy holy dwelling place, where Thou sittest enthroned in glory, might, majesty and dominion, and with an infinitude of power which we, Thy mortal creatures, cannot imagine much less comprehend. Amen and Amen." - from Wilford Woodruff's dedication prayer.
