Description:
The dust jacket is in two pieces and clearly states book club edition on the inside flap. This book is signed but the signature does not match other signatures I have been able to find. I am not sure why someone would want to fake Tom Lea's signature on a book club edition, so it is possible it's real. Real or not, once you get past the tattered cover, the book itself is in good shape. Free USPS shipping to continental U.S.

Description:
The binding is in poor shape, but the interior still holds together well and the plates are in good condition. This is a first edition. Originally written in the late 1600s by a doctor who says he tended to the great painter's first wife Saskia when she was dying, and who eventually formed a friendship with Rembrandt. In this account we get many glimpses not only into the life, personality and habits of this elusive genius of light and shadow, we also get a glimpse of everyday life in Western Europe in the 1600s. Although at times this becomes tedious, and our attentions would rather focus on Rembrandt exclusively, experiencing that vanished world through the eyes of someone who lived is fascinating.
