The first and only edition of an uncommon 18th century dictionary. Alexander Macbean was a Scottish writer and one of the compilers of Dr Samuel Johnson's dictionary (the current book's preface was written by Samuel Johnson). He was a descendant of Clan Macbean, a highland Scottish clan dating back to the 15th century. Dr. Johnson himself wrote about the dictionary: "A work like this has long been wanted: I would willingly flatter myself that the want is now supplied..."

An uncommon collection of poems by Louis Magee, published posthumously in his honor and chosen from his archives by his closest friends and family. He was a US businessman and electrical engineer at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century - who had apparently spent several years in Berlin where he had become one of the pioneers of electric railway systems in Europe. In his preface Andrew D. White said Magee was remembered not only for his scientific papers and achievements but also for his ability to "offer his thoughts in verse."

An image of a beautiful lady, seated in front of a window, it was created by the lithographic partnership of Napoleon Sarony (1821 - 1896), who had worked for Currier & Ives before co-founding his own company, and brothers Henry Major (1820 - 1877) and Richard Major (1825 - 1894). Sarony was also known as a great photographer, especially for his portraits of the stars of the 19th-century American theater.

Carl Henry Marcoux was a United States merchant marine during WWII. His ships took part in the invasion of the Philippines and Okinawa before the war ended in August, 1945. He also served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Marcoux has written several books and memoirs, the manuscripts for which are now in the "Carl Henry Marcoux Collection" at the Library of Congress. His current book, though a work of fiction, is based on real events from the devastating Civil War in El Salvador (1979-1990).
