Hand-bound in 1989 by female bookbinder (first name only known as Maggie) for Bookbinding Diploma in the UK. The first edition was published in 1925. Beautifully hand-crafted binding that feels softly textured and cold to the touch.. 5th or later Edition. Hardcover. Very Good.

This is an especially attractive copy, beautifully bound about 1920 by Eric Wilfred Dickens, bookbinder, (born 24/9/1888) of 46 Mordaunt St. Stockwell, London. The spine has a leather label and five raised bands & is densely tooled in gilt. This copy was used as a sample of Mr Dickens bookbinding skill & was purchased by us directly from the bookbinders grandson in its original book cabinet.. Hardcover. Very Good.

First edition of this poem by John McCreery (1768-1832). It is dedicated to William Roscoe and begins with an address to the ghost of Johann Gutenberg; it is finely printed with Baskerville Press typefaces designed by William Martin, and is illustrated by Henry Hole. 1870 This unique medical manuscript book contains 196 pages including a 2 page index and consists of medical conditions, symptoms and their treatment. It is signed by the author George Morgan, London Hospital, 1870 on the paste down end-paper and the entire text is in his distinctive hand, mostly in ink but with some contemporary pencil annotations in the same handwriting. George Morgan was a student at the London Hospital (later known as the Royal London Hospital) from 1868 and he was originally from Pontypool, Wales. There are written references to contemporary medical luminaries such as Frederick Pavy on testing for sugar in urine and Marshall Hall (1790-1857) on the spinal cord. Pavy (1829-1911) established the importance of measuring sugar in urine and improved on Hermann Von Fehling's 1850 test. The entire book is very legible, in very good internal condition and bound in contemporary roan backed boards, but with some damage to the spine. It measures 180 X 120 mm.
