Original full marbled sheep; spine with simple gilt rules and with a red lettering piece, gilt. Some mainly marginal staining at the beginning and the end, signatures F through L show a bit of marginal insect damage (no loss) else a very good copy. Though stated on the title that this is a 'New Edition' it is likely after the second London edition of 1790 but still the first printing in the US.

London: J. M. Dent, 1893. First edition. Wraps. Near fine. Aubrey Beardelsy. Twelve original parts in green wrappers. Parts 1-8 and 10-12 are the "Superior Issue" of 300 copies on Dutch handmade paper (this set unnumbered). Part 9 is from the "regular issue" and is slightly smaller in size. Full page and double page illustrations, rubricated initials, borders and in-text decorations by Aubrey Beardsley in his first major commission. This set is uncut and largely unopened. There is some offsetting from the illustrations to the facing pages. Part 9 lacks a tiny piece form the spine and has had a nearly invisible repair to the upper wrapper; the wrappers show light soil else this is a near fine set.

Publisher's linen cloth, leather lettering label in blind. One of 500 numbered copies (this is number 353). Introduction by Paul Needham. This is a facsimile of the Pierpont Morgan Library copy of Caxton's Morte d'Arthur, the only surviving complete copy. (A nearly complete copy is housed at the Rylands Library and a single leaf is at Lincoln Cathedral.) The facsimile is preceded by a discussion of the watermarks in the Pierpont Morgan Library copy and are reproduced by betaradiography. A fine copy in publisher's utilitarian slipcase (which has a small corner bump). This facsimile is your only opportunity to own the Caxton printing, barring the discovery of another not institutionally owned original. Gaines A26.

(43),(1)pp. Finely printed in black, red and blue under the direction of Leonard Jay at the City of Birmingham School of Printing. Printed by students in the Letterpress Machine classes. Set in Garamond. Illustrated with wood engravings by Ivy Ellis, Winifred Hobday, Madeline Rose, Rose Thornton; shields cut by Evelyn Hill and Stanley Dennis. Printed in black, red and light blue. The woodcuts are full page plates. In the original decorated paper wraps. Number of copies produced is unknown but probably less than 100. Wallis mentions runs of 65 copies for later endeavors. London: Philip Lee Warner for the Medici Society, 1920. First trade edition. Hardcover. Very good/Very good. Illustrated by W. Russell Flint.. 4to. Two volumes. 24 full color plates by Flint. Green cloth, gilt spine title and gilt design on the upper boards. Top edges gilt. There is a small bump on the rear board of volume 2, and trivial traces of wear to the edges and corners, else this is a bright, near fine copy and one of the nicest we have seen. With the bookplates in each volume of Robert Turner Young. The Russell Flint illustrated edition of Malory first appears in a limited four volume edition in 1910-1911. This is the first trade edition, in two volumes, many times reprinted. There was also a later one volume edition also many times reprints.
