The Marx Sisters

Maitland, Barry

London: Hamish Hamilton, 1994-01. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. Signed. Signed first British Edition and true first of author's extremely scarce first book. Slight wear, creasing to the front flap fold and some rubbing to dustwrapper. Introduces the detective team of Detective Sergeant Kathy Kolla and Detective Chief Inspector David Brock. Maitland, whose real career started in architecture, centers his mysteries on intellectual, scholarly or arcane special knowledge that makes this series particularly enjoyable. In The Marx Sisters, e.g., there is a puzzle over a missing revision to Marx's Das Kapital, in which the reader is invited to speculate whether Karl had some second thoughts about his earlier economic theories. The Rabbits *1st US Signed w/sketch by Shaun Tan*

Marsden, John; Tan, Shaun [Illustrator]

Vancouver: Simply Read Books, 2003-09-15. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. Signed. First US/Canadian edition of this wonderful collaboration by John Marsden and Shaun Tan is a haunting tale of reckless imperialism and disregard for the environment. Signed with a waterbird sketch by Shaun Tan. Ever think of rabbits as a powerful and evil invading army? Shaun Tan has illustrated John Marsden's story with the scariest rabbits you will ever see -- but they're beautiful in a darkly fascinating way as well. For anyone who is interested in Australian history or colonialism anywhere.
