Description:
Portland, OR: Fredrik Averin, 2014. First printing. Square broadside, 20 x 20 inches, printed silkscreen in two colors on Mohawk Via 80 lb. cover stock, in an edition of forty-two copies. Bilingual English/Swedish text; typography and translation by the publisher. New. A poem interpreted through the interplay of language, space, and color: the English text is printed in sky blue, the Swedish in warm red, and the three words in the poem that are, in fact, pronounced exactly alike in both languages are overprinted in the two base colors. An ingenious, gorgeous, and visually arresting rendering.

Description:
Victoria, TX: Chax Press, 2015. First printing. 335 pp., large square 8vo. Perfect-bound in illustrated wrappers. Edited by Anne Tardos and Michael O'Driscoll, with preface, introduction, and notes. New. The long-awaited collection of all sixty of the poet's "Light Poems," a form that he devised in the early 1960s and returned to intermittently for more than twenty-five years. Each of the "intensely biographical" poems is dedicated to a close friend or colleague, and all feature Mac Low's unique blend of concreteness and contingency. A third of the poems are previously unpublished; another third had only ephemeral or periodical publication prior to this collection.

Description:
Los Angeles: Sci-Arc, 1995. First printing. Sewn into wood boards. Fine. (35) pp., square 16mo. Publication number 6 in the Public Access Press series sponsored by the Southern California Institute of Architecture. An innovative artist's book, with ten color photographs ("moments") taken in France, Turkey, and Los Angeles by Mackler, and book design by Berssen. Each of the ten original photographic prints is tipped onto a page of extremely thin, flexible wood veneer; each photo is preceded by first a structural graphic image on architectural vellum, and then a brief typewritten text on tissue; the title page, prefatory text, list of images, and colophon are also typewritten on wood veneer. The whole is sewn onto cords and bound into painted wood covers, in an edition of one hundred numbered copies. A fine copy of a striking and idiosyncratic production.

New York: SZ/Press, 1984. First printing. 50 pp., 6 x 8 inches. Perfect-bound in printed wrappers. Introduction by Ira Cohen. Illustrated in black-and-white throughout. This, the “first copy,” is inscribed by Ira Cohen, author of the introduction, to Julian Beck and Judith Malina of the Living Theater, “Bringers of light.” (Cohen’s film Paradise Now: The Living Theater in Amerika documented their 1968 tour, and they remained close friends the rest of their lives.)

Description:
Toronto: Mercury House, 2004. First printing. 110 pp., 8.5 x 11 inches. Perfect-bound in printed wrappers. As new, signed by the author. . . . if a man could write a book on Ethics which really was a book on Ethics, this book would, with an explosion, destroy all the other books in the world. (Ludwig Wittgenstein) An apikoros, in the Jewish tradition, is one who has forfeited their share in the world to come; someone who is lax in their observance or disbelieves; a skeptic or an atheist. Apikoros Sleuth is “a murder mystery in the form of a Talmudic inquiry. In an unlikely and extraordinary combination of genres, the author weaves together over the surface of every page a breathtaking whodunit, a poetic exploration of the limits of language, and a philosophical inquiry on the terrain of ethics, issues of life, death, guilt and community.” Simultaneously an artist’s book and a work of experimental prose, evoking (for this reader) works by Samuel Beckett, Raymond Federman, Paul Zelevansky, and… Read more

Description:
Mexico City: Ediciones Arcos, n.d. (circa 1955). First printing thus. 292 pp., 6 x 7.75 inches. Sewn signatures glued into printed card covers. Translated from the Italian by Manuel Alonso Muñoz. Paper evenly browned, small hole in first blank endsheet, and small loss at the top of the spine, but still a sound survival of a cheaply made and fragile production. Malaparte, born Curt Erich Suckert, is perhaps best known in the English-speaking world for his novel Kaputt and his famed house Casa Malaparte (featured in Godard’s Contempt). The Volga Rises in Europe (as it is titled in the English version), first published in 1943, collects his reports on the Russo-German war for Corriere della Sera. No information is readily available about the artist who painted the terrific, uncredited cover illustration for this Mexican edition.
