Cabridsge UK: Cambridge University Press, 1929. 4to. 260 - 539 pp. plus XXV - XLIV b/w photo plate and color chart. The Discovery Reports resulted from expeditions to the Southern Oceans funded out of proceeds from the sale of whaling licenses that took place between 1925 and 1951. This is one of the earlier, and scarcer, ones, reporting on studies of whales brought into southern whaling stations. Very good condition in original printed wrappers.

(Surrey, England): Gresham Books, (1981). Well, if you ever wanted to learn about wood engraving from an accomplished artist, this is a the closet thing to a visit to his studio. This set consists of "Wood Engraving," an illustrated instructional text by Mackley on wood engraving, "George Mackley Wood Engraver," a richly-illustrated survey of his work, and "Confessions of a Woodpecker," which includes text, illustrations, and a bound-in portfolio of 62 examples of his work. The three volumes are hand bound in 1/4 calf over marbled boards by E. A. Weeks & Son, London, and housed in a custom slipcase in matching calf over marbled boards. This is copy #111 in a limited edition of 250 copies, signed by Mackley, with a signed wood engraving laid in. A few spots on backstrips, some abrasion to slipcase, but a near fine set.. Three volumes. Volumes I and II - 21.5 x 31 cm. 136 and 48 pp. plus b/w wood engravings; Volume III - 14.5 x 21 cm. 124, (12 Supplement) pp. b/w wood engravings.

Philadelphia, 1883. b/w frontis. 150 pp. “Being a journal kept during a four month’s voyage on an American merchantman, from Philadelphia to San Francisco.” Smith calls it, “A delightful account.” - American Travellers M35. There was a trade edition published in the same year, but this is a limited “author’s edition” specially bound, for his “chums.” It is scarce in this format, with Worldcat showing only three libraries holding copies.
