Original limp wrappers. 52, (1) pages. First edition. Scarce item in the trade. A stamped presentation from Pratt & Whitney, and pencil ownership signature of the great American mechanical engineer Ambrose Swasey dated 1881, with his note "preserve." Tipped in at the front is "Tabl of cutters for teeth of gear wheels, made by Pratt & Whitney Company...Novemb 1879," the year Swasey took over the department at Pratt & Whitney. Tipped i at the rear is a Pratt & Whitney advertisement. Not only was Swasey a mechanical engineer, he was also an inventor, entrepreneur, astronomer, and philanthropist. With Worcester R. Warner he co-founded the Warner & Swasey Company in 1880. While with Pratt & Whitnewy he developed a new technique fo making gear-tooth cutters. With Swasey's bookplate.
