Title page woodcut vignette, 3 further woodcut illustrations. Recent quarter calf, spine in six with raised bands, leather label, gilt lettering and motifs, marbled boards. Later endpapers. Lightly toned. Light foxing to plates. Large map fold carefully reinforced. Neat marginal pencil note to xxv. A crisp handsome copy with all maps and plates as listed.
Laurence Oliphant (1829-1888) Author, Adventurer, Spy, Diplomatic Negotiator, Lawyer, Religious Mystic. A remarkably clever and incongruous Victorian. With his father he notably brought the first tea plants from China to their plantation at Nuwara Eliya, Ceylon.

Frederick Scott Oliver (1864-1934) Political writer, businessman

Jermyn Moorsom (1881-1951) Son of James Marshall Moorsom. Haileybury, Eton. One of Darling's Kingsmen at Cambridge, one of Josie Low's "Quartet", friend of EM Forster etc. m. Pamela Milbourne-Swinnerton-Pilkington (1926). Became a sheep farmer at Hyndlee, Hawick, and later moved to Durrus, near Cork. Died March 1951, Durrus Court, Bantry, having changed his surname to 'Moorson'.
