First and only edition. Small quarto 24x17 cm., original pictorial wrappers, 48 pp. Very small edition, under 150. The Title translates as Day and Night, or Around the Clock. Woodcut cover and five full-page woodcuts by Aleksander Bergmann, the lifelong pseudonym of Aleksander Vardi (1901-1983). Vardi achieved renown in Estonia for his Impressionist and color-saturated landscapes in a style he embarked on by 1928. The work he did for this book was executed during his studies in Tartu at the Pallas Art Institute and was part of an experimental phase. He used the Bergmann pseudo for his book illustrations. These were always an opportunity for him to explore other approaches. Here he employs a highly original cubo-expressionism. Author Julius Oengo (Öngo, 1901-1941) was a poet and widely published author of children's books. Oblong octavo 15x19,5 cm., wrappers, (10) pp. Cover and illustrations by Aleksandr Vasil'evich Nikolaev (1897-1957). Author Olga Trizna (1898-1939) is only known as Soviet writer. The illustrator is noted here as Usto-Mumin, a working name for Alexander Vasilyevich Nikolaev (1897-1957), who was an Uzbek Soviet artist of note; he was known as Honored Worker of Arts of the Üzbek SSR, painter, graphic artist, founder of new Üzbek painting. In 1919 he attended the second State Free Art Workshops with Kazimir Malevich in Moscow. In 1920, under the mandate of the Turk Central Executive Committee, to strengthen and develop national arts, he moved to Turkestan and joined the artistic association Masters of the New East . OCLC locates four North American institutional holdings (Chicago, Harvard, Univ MO, Princeton). Near fine, a very fresh copy of a lovely book.

Onchi Koshiro (1891-1955) was a great master of printmaking and book design, participating in all manner of Japanese visual culture including printing, photography bookmaking, editing and publishing. This is close to a catalogue raisonné ever published and offers 424 black/white illustrations and 125 in color; one beautiful original print included with the artist's blind-stamp.
