Description:
Providence: Hammond, Angell & Company, 1870. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Very Good+/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. This copy is clean, relatively tight, square with sharp corners and unmarked. There is a shadow on the front board where another book has laid across this one and the rest of the board has faded. It is a bit rubbed, noticeable on the gold titles on the spine. The boards are covered in purple cloth. Laid in, there is a copy of a 1959 letter from DeWolf Perry (assume J. DeWolf Perry IV - his father having been Bishop of RI and presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church) to Seebert Goldowsky offering to lend the book to Goldowsky who had advertised in the NY Times for copies of the book. Perry being a relative of both Oliver Hazzard and Matthew Perry indicates he will only lend, not give the book, but will buy anything published about his two relatives (copy of the advertisement included). It has 72 pages. This is an assumed first edition.
