Henry Meade Bland was a poet, philosopher, who published among other works, In Yosemite and other Poems, Stevenson's California, and was long associated with education in Santa Clara County. He may well have been the author of the pencil attempts at the puzzle. .

From the library of the late Ian Jackson, who would probably know exactly who executed the chart. .
