There are no marks of any kind in the book; the dustjacket has not been price-clipped and is now protected in a new mylar cover. Very Good binding / Good dust jacket.

The Second Edition of this significant travel narrative; "[Park]...made the first great practical advance in the opening-up of Central Africa" [Printing and the Mind of Man, 253]. With an engraved frontispiece portrait of Mungo Park, a folding map showing "The Route of Mr. Park"; 5 plates; a map of North Africa'; a Chart of Variations; and 2 leaves of music "A Negro Song from Mr. Parks' Travels". The Dedication Page has an error -- "INSRCIBED" for "INSCRIBED". There is damp staining, affecting the first map and several plates, and the maps have old and effective reinforcements to the versos. Half leather over marbled boards. The boards show considerable wear with loss to the corners, and the front board has been reattached. Morocco label. (PMM, 253). Very Good binding.

Philadelphia: Edward Earle, 1815. First American Edition. Full Leather. Very Good binding. The First American Edition of the Scottish explorer's narrative (one of several) of travels into Africa. With the life of Park, followed by his vivid account, and concluding with Isaaco's Journal. The large folding map, colored in outline, is present, with some discreet repair to the verso. There is also repair to the leading edge of the front endpaper. Bound in contemporary tree calf, with morocco label. There has been some patching to the spine. Foxing throughout, (Shaw & Shoemaker 35565). Very Good binding.

A mildly ex-library copy, with a paper label to the spine, and a checkout slip from the Olean Public Library on the rear pastedown. An interesting and worthwhile book, with much on the postal service (Parker was a superintendent of the mails for the Army of the Potomac) and even an encounter with Elizabeth Van Lew in Richmond. Bud Robertson says of this book "Capt. Parker['s] memoirs neglect battles but reveal much on the outstanding Federal figures [Nevins I, 142]. This copy from Robertson's personal collection with his bookplate on the pastedown (over the Olean Library plate). Very Good binding.

[Glen Island Photography], 1900. Hard Cover. Good binding. A photo album from the extended family of James Parker, a Medal of Honor recipient. Few of the photos are dated 1900, with about five being photos of West Point at the time. With 47 total tipped in photographs, one of which has loss to one edge. Notations on the gray paper leaves, with laid in leaves of notations by descendants for each page. Housed in a black cloth album, bound with a light red string. Beginning of separation along the front joint, and minor edgewear to the spine. Good binding.

Being the letters from Guy Patin, a seventeenth century French doctor, addressed to Charles Spon, a French doctor practicing in Lyon. Guy, or Gui Patin was not a particularly noteworthy doctor per se, but his letters form an important primary document for the history of medicine, and France at the time. Text in French. Collates complete; [6], 410; [2], 438 pp. Title page in black and red, with an engraved vignette. Faint dampstaining to the top of the preliminaries of Volume I. Top and bottom of the spine of Volume II has been repaired by a conservator using Japanese tissue; loss to the extremities of Volume I, and some surface loss to the paper covered boards. Half leather over marbled paper. Good binding.
