The Dedication Page has an error -- "INSRCIBED" for "INSCRIBED". There is damp staining, affecting the first map and several plates, and the maps have old and effective reinforcements to the versos. An interesting and worthwhile book, with much on the postal service (Parker was a superintendent of the mails for the Army of the Potomac) and even an encounter with Elizabeth Van Lew in Richmond. Bud Robertson says of this book "Capt. Parker['s] memoirs neglect battles but reveal much on the outstanding Federal figures [Nevins I, 142]. This copy from Robertson's personal collection with his bookplate on the pastedown (over the Olean Library plate). Very Good binding.

Top and bottom of the spine of Volume II has been repaired by a conservator using Japanese tissue; loss to the extremities of Volume I, and some surface loss to the paper covered boards.
