KnopfÂ’s sister-in-law, as she was married to his brother, the famous Hollywood director, writer, and producer, Edwin Knopf (The Rebel, Mr. Imperium, Rendezvous). Mildred Knopf was a cookbook writer of some esteem (thus, the inscription), publishing six cookbooks including The Perfect Hostess Cook Book in 1950 and Cook, My Darling Daughter in 1959. Portfolio in illustrated envelope, which includes a suite of 10 individual "portraits" of the wolves (plus one on cover), originally realized in charcoal pencil. 14.5" x 11". VG+ or better prints and portfolio in a VG envelope. Wendy Pini is the creator (with her husband Richard) and illustrator of ElfQuest, a wildly popular fantasy series of comics first published in 1978. In May of 1986, Pini was invited by Dr. Erich Klinghanmmer, Director of Wolf Park in Battle Ground, Indiana, to spend time sketching the wolves at the park. She and her husband, Richard, had been supporters of the park and "its aim to inform a largely unaware public of the complexities and ecological significance of the lupine social system." Uncommon--no copies in OCLC or in commerce as of October 2023.

Additionally taped to ffep is another publisher promotional sheet with a write-up of Pinter’s adaptation of Fowles’s novel, which was due out in theaters in the fall starring Meryl Streep and Jeremy Irons. On this sheet, Introduction is crossed out, as is a failed attempt at spelling Foreword. Roger Ebert called Pinter’s screenplay “simple and brilliant.”
