Description:
Tratado de las enfermedades de la boca sobre todas las partes del arte del dentista por Don Francisco Antonio Peláez, cirujano en esta corte y dentista de los Reales Hospitales.FIRST EDITION. This is the first attempt to offer a scholar study book for Spanish dentists, given the shortage of texts of this type. Peláez's work, printed in Madrid in the office of Mr. Benito Cano, went out to the streets in 1795 under the protectorate of his patron, Mr. Serafín Agustín Dávila, Marques de Miravel, avoiding the censorship of the Matritense Medical Academy that had been the one that had to authorize the publication. Includes an attractive plate of dental instruments.
One of the few Spanish writers until the 19th century, the Asturian Francisco Antonio Peláez declares himself on the cover of his work "Surgeon and dentist of the Royal Hospitals", probably a minor or romancist surgeon who practiced in Madrid and dedicated himself to dentistry, since he justifies his thirty-year experience in the same… Read More

*Includes Portuguese Poetry*
6vols; small folio; 315 issues (COMPLETE). Contemporary half leather bindings (red, brown, and green).2 color title pages and two chromolithographic cartoons; three full-page chromolithographic caricatures; black and white lithographs throughout.
O António Maria was Portugal's first great political satire magazine, directed by Portugal's first great political cartoonist Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro (1846-1905).
The title, meant as an exclamation, expropriated the first half of the name of the reigning Portuguese Prime Minister, António Maria Fontes Pereira.
Like Puck, O António Maria usually devoted its first, last, and center pages to cartoons. The text pages also were dotted with cartoon art. Among the contributors were the poet Guilherme de Azevedo ("João Rialto"), Ramalho Ortigão ("João Ribaixo"), Alfredo Morais Pinto ("Pan-Tarantula"), João Broa, Emílio Pimentel, Enrique Casanova, António… Read More

Alejandra Pizarnik, in full Flora Alejandra Pizarnik, (born April 16 or 29, 1936, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Died Sept. 25, 1972, Buenos Aires), Argentine poet whose poems are known for their stifling sense of exile and rootlessness. Pizarnik was born into a family of Jewish immigrants from eastern Europe. Description:
Slavery in the Southern States. By a Carolinian.
[Afro-Americana. Pro-slavery] First edition. A pro-slavery tract in response to the question "What do you think of 'Uncle Tom's Cabin' at the South." Pringle's purpose, he writes, is "to prove that the slave is not by his position necessarily below the reach of moral and religious cultivation. Our object in this has been not so much to answer the objections of the opponents of slavery as to prove for the slaveholder that his dependent laborer is capable of better things than the world would have him believe, and especially to remind him that whatever arguments he urges in favor of the slave's position are all of necessity so many pledges for the faithful discharge of his own duties" (p.43). Edward Jenkins Pringle (1826-1899), born a Charleston aristocrat, graduated from Harvard in 1845 and following the thinking of George Fitzhugh, argued that southern slaves had more freedom than the wage laborers of the North. Finding insufficient legal work in… Read More
