Lacking the two maps, scheduled to be bound-in, at the beginnings of each of the two volumes, respectively. 16 copperplate engravings (one foldout) in these, the first two volumes of a planned XIV-volume undertaking (an advertisement on the verso of the final leaf reads: "In the third volume of this work, which will be published on the first day of August..."). A lovely little pocket-sized compendium of fascinating sundry knowledge, written in a chatty, informational style -- sort of the Rick Steve's pocket guides of their day -- but 250 years ago! The copperplate engravings are sharp and feature such places as Stonehenge, and a cavern called "The Devil's Arse"
