Description:
Gelatin silver photograph measures 8 x 10 inches. Photograph was likely taken in the first half of the 20th century (1925-45) and later printed from the original negative at the Palace of the Governors Photo Archives. On verso there are stamps from the Museum of New Mexico, the photographer’s name stamped near the bottom edge and in pencil, “San Juan Potter '' and the number "22674 ". Photograph has a slight wave, else very good condition. Although little is written about Maria de los Reyes (Aquino) Trujillo, you can see from this image that her pottery was quite beautiful. The photographer of this image, T. Harmon Parkhurst (1883-1952), was self-taught, worked at the Palace of the Governors with Jesse L. Nusbaum and Charles F. Lummis, and had his own studio in Santa Fe (Palace of the Governors Photo Archives). .

Boards have moderate sunning and wear; text block has light foxing and soiling; a poorly executed wood block is located on 4pp. These periodicals use the phonetic alphabet, a standardized representation of sounds of the spoken languages devised in the mid 19th century, and was sometimes used as a teaching mechanism to learn how to read. The Cosmopolitan periodical is written entirely in a strange set of symbols, titled "the Cozmofonetic Alfabet" (a portion of this periodical happens to be the… Read More
