Chicago: J. N. Clarke, Publisher, 1870. Later printing. Hardcover. Good. 12mo. Two books in one. [1], vi, 7-346, [1] blank, 144 pages, [1]. Dark cloth hardcover ruled in blind on the covers. Gilt title on the spine. Cloth is chipped at the head and base of the spine, front and rear joints, and on the corners. Slightly shaken binding with about 20 pages in the middle starting to pull loose. A good reading copy. Mrs. Packard's husband, a Presbyterian clergyman, had his wife put into an Insane Asylum in Illinois in the 1860's mainly because she disagreed openly about his theology and domestic affairs. Her husband also tried to put her in an Insane Asylum in Northampton, Massachusetts but was ultimately unsuccessful. Mrs. Packard later became a advocate for women's rights and for those who were arbitrarily claimed to be insane. This book was first published in 1868. A pre Chicago fire imprint.

New York: Printed for the Author, Bolmore, Printer, 1821. Wraps. Good. Disbound wraps approx. 8" x 5". 42 pages. A few illustrations. Moderate toning to the paper. A few old ink spots on page 42. Title is page 1. Edward Postlethwayt Page announced himself as the "High Priest of Nature". He was a Protestant Irishman of Culture, and a complete gentleman; white headed (about 1845), rather stout, and always the perfection of neatness in his dress. He published various pamphlets with eccentric titles, generally without covers, and resided in Marietta, Ohio. The editions were small and hence very few are preserved. He died on the Virginia side of the Ohio River about 1853." (From Notes and Queries, Vol. 18). Scarce, 11 copies located in OCLC. OCLC lists Page's death in 1857 (1782-1857). OCLC also lists this work as 40 pages and does not account for the extra two pages in this copy. Shoemaker 6362.
