THE NEW PROSPERO A NOVEL

Quakerson, W. E.

  • Quantity available: 1
London: Heath, Cranton, Ltd., n.d. [1916].. Octavo, pp. [1-9] 10-304, original terra cotta cloth, front and spine panels stamped in black. First edition. A presentation copy with inscription by Quakerson (a pseudonym?) on the front free endpaper: "To his dear Aunt & Uncle / with the Author's love. / Sept. 1916." A political allegory and updating of THE TEMPEST in which a man of great wealth becomes involved in international politics. His effort to bring national pride and prosperity to the citizens of the "small" and "politically insignificant" kingdom of Egregia, results in the invasion and assimilation of the country by a major foreign power. The author was a member of the Society of Friends. Considerable foxing, heavy early and late, a very good copy. COPAC reports 4 copies. KVK reports a copy at Saarlndische Bibliotheken. OCLC records no copies in North America. A very scarce book. (#153451)
