London; Published for the Crime Club by Collins, 1957., 1957. Hard Cover. FIRST EDITION. Octavo, pp. 288. Publishers' scarlet cloth with black titles to spine, in unclipped pictorial dust-jacket. Spine lightly sunned and rubbed at tips. Slight offsetting to free endpapers from jacket, with ownership inscription to front pastedown, and gift inscription from year of publication to ffep. Jacket lightly soiled and toned to white panels, with loss at spine tips and corners and four small paper repairs to reverse. A Very Good copy in Good jacket. 14 short stories by various authors including Lord Dunsany and James Yaffe, the winning entries from the Tenth Annual Short-Story Contest sponsored by "Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine". Duo Frederic Dannay and his cousin Manfred Bennington Lee wrote crime fiction together under the pseudonym of Ellery Queen; Queen was also the main fictional character in their novels.
