Cowen, General Counsel and later President of the Company, also member of the National House of Representatives, and Arthur Pue Gorman, Senator of the United States from Maryland.

An Indian story of Bedford County, Pennsylvania. Eve Earnest and several of her children were captured by Indians in 1777 and taken to Detroit. Nine years later they found their way back to their home near Port Bedford, PA. This is her story, and also a genealogy of her descendants in Bedford County. Because of her time spent with the Indians, she was always known as Indian Eve, even though not Native American by birth.

In 2022 (after decades of discussion and debate) the fraternity officially changed its name to Kappa Pi Kappa, to avoid inevitable but incorrect associations with the racist, terrorist group that shared the same English letters acronym (KKK). In the aftermath of the Civil War and a series of smallpox epidemics, there were many orphans on Maryland's Eastern Shore. A group of local citizens decided to open an orphanage, and in 1871 the Children's Home of the Eastern Shore opened its doors. Nine year old Polly Ross became a resident at the Children's Home in 1925, along with her younger sister. This book is a loving memoir of her experiences there, and a well-researched history of the institution as well, published just two years after it closed for good.
