Description:
Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1987. First Edition. . Hardback. Very Good. First edition. Hardback in tan cloth with printed titling to spine and upper board. 22.5 × 14cm, 171pp. While Rider Haggard's stories have been popular with several generations of readers, this was the first study to examine the place of Empire in his writing and to draw out its related political and literary implications. Dr Katz argues that the romance adventure carried an ideological burden for Haggard and that he was one of a number of imperial-minded writers - among them R. L. Stevenson, Andrew Lang, W. E. Henley and Kipling - who shared a similar world-view and certain literary traits. The book includes a biographical sketch focusing on Haggard's experiences in the Transvaal in the later 1870s and early 1880s, and his association with South Africa throughout his life; a description of the imperial background, with particular attention paid to the imperial emphasis on leadership and heroism; an… Read More

London: Springer, 2013. First Paperback Edition. . Soft cover. Very Good. First paperback edition. 23.5 × 15.5cm, xxi + 566pp. Hallucinatory phenomena have held the fascination of science since the dawn of medicine, and the popular imagination from the beginning of recorded history. Their study has become a critical aspect of our knowledge of the brain, making significant strides in recent years with advances in neuroimaging, and has established common ground among what normally are regarded as disparate fields. The Neuroscience of Hallucinations synthesizes the most up-to-date findings on these intriguing auditory, visual, olfactory, gustatory, and somatosensory experiences, from their molecular origins to their cognitive expression. In recognition of the wide audience for this information among the neuroscientific, medical, and psychology communities, its editors bring a mature evidence base to highly subjective experience. This knowledge is presented in comprehensive detail as leading… Read More
