Description:
[Missouri], [ca. 1974]. 4to. commercial album. Floral print polyester covered boards over metal spiral binding. 10 adhesive card leaves holding 27 photographs (majority color snapshot), various clippings, and ticket stubs to rectos and versos. Contents firmly adhered to card pages, overall about good or better. A fan compiled photograph scrapbook chronicling the 1974 stock car racing season of Shawnee, KS driver Terry Bivins, with ephemera and images from at least three Missouri tracks: Odessa (the I-70 Speedway), Rolla, and Sedalia (Missouri State Fairgrounds). Bivins was a dominant driver on the Midwestern dirt and asphalt circuits of the mid-1970's, and briefly made the leap to competition in NASCAR's Winston Cup Series, running the 1976 and 1977 seasons. He logged a top-ten finish in the '76 Daytona 500 (8th) and ended the year as runner-up in Rookie of the Year voting. Disputes with his car owner and lack of sponsorship money limited his 1977 season to 8 races and he retired from top-tier…

Description:
[California], (1961). 11" x 9" plain black card folder holdiing 11 original photographs and various printed, xeroxed, and hand-written pages via mounted brass tack binders at left margin and composing a 20pp. booklet. Contents with three hole punches at binder margins, overall all about very good. A sales prospectus booklet created, seemingly in advance of a claiming race, to pitch a four year old thoroughbred race horse named Caen City, in late 1961 (or possibly early 1962). Named for beloved San Francisco columist Herb Caen by his original owners, he was out of Ali Bye Bye and Musn't Touch (the former with two important early 20th Century horses, Alibhai and Blue Larkspur, in his pedigree) and campaigned to moderate success at tracks all over California under ever-changing ownership from 1961 until about 1968. Featuring the glossy print of an intricately designed pedigree wheel at front, follwed by an additional 11 original photographs, including two dramatic finish line views, this is almost…

Description:
Braselton, Georgia, 1985-1986. About 165 color snapshot photographs (each approximately 5" x 3 1/2") tipped onto rectos and versos of 45 white paper leaves. Leaves with computer printed borders for print placement along with type descriptions. Contents removed from a defective, original plain binder, placed into an archival, dust proof model by us. Overall about near fine. An album of snapshot photography capturing the 1985 and 1986 World of Outlaws circuit's winged sprint car races run over the 3/8 paved oval on the grounds of the Road Atlanta Raceway in Braselton, Georgia, a motorsports complex about 50 miles northeast of Atlanta. Photographed and laid out by amateur Georgia racing historian and photographer, Joe Cawley, the images are uncommonly clear and well executed with the layout almost certainly done on a period PC. The innovative designs, including the addition of garish, aerodyanmic wings atop the cars, which dramatically increased speeds, made a controversial splash in sprint car…

Description:
[Reno, Nevada], (1979). Commercial snapshot album holding 26 color drugstore print snapshots. An additional 12 color snapshots and 15 black and white 5" x 7" prints laid-in loose. All about near fine. An album and loose assortment of photographs documenting the opening of a JC Penney location in Reno, Nevada's Meadowood Mall in October, 1979 along with a grand re-opening following a remodel in August of 1986. The prints are undated, but I suspect the album mounted prints are from '86 while the loose photos are from 1979 given the identification of Nevada's First Lady Kathy List to the verso of one.

Fold-out chart between pp.184-185 present and intact. Lengthy previous owner's inscription in blue ink to interior of front board. Ocassional underlining and marking to contents. Right margin just outside fo text inexplicably clipped on pp.19-20. Binding tight, sound. About very good overall. A scarce original copy of the "Richardson Report" on crime in Hawaii commissioned by President Hoover and carried out by Assistant U.S. Attorney General Seth Richardson in 1932 in response to a moral panic among Island haoles and mainland whites surrounding a perceived crime wave resulting from the highly publicized lynching of island native Joe Kahahawai. Jr. after his acquittal for an accused rape of a white woman, subsequent sham trial of his alleged killers (known as the "Massie Trial"), and their pardon by the…

London: Methuen, (1964). 8 1/2" x 5 3/4." 282pp. Plain, full purple cloth over boards. Gilt stamped title lettering to spine. In original illustrated dust jacket. Unclipped (36s net). Jacket lightly edgeworn with some light discolor staining to rear panel. Cloth bright and clean though with a faint crease running down spine. Text unmarked and with Experimental Form 1 questionarre present and complete. A scarce UK first of Bernard Rimland's landmark work on autism with the Diagnostic Check List for Behavior-Disturbed Children (Form E-1) occupying pp.221-236 intact, complete, and unmarked. The father of an autistic son and psychologist by training, Rimland sought to crack the guarded medical establisment and diseminate the exceedingly narrow research being done on infantile autism in the early 1960's. He researched and wrote the book independently, defying the prevailing science of the time which blamed the disorder chiefly on uncaring parents. His manuscript was picked up for publication by Appleton…
