With copperplate title by Scotin showing Rabelais working (in addition to the regular title printed in red and black), engraved portrait (frontis), 3 folding copper plates (La Déviniere, Rabelais' room, the outside of Rabelais' room - they are more interesting than they sound!), and 1 engraved map of Chinon and district. (17x11cm). Initial letters, headbands and tailpieces engraved on wood. Full leather with 5 raised bands, gilt decoration and titles to burgundy labels to the spines. The bindings are mostly sound, with a touch of wear, particularly to the head and tail of volume 1 which has slight loss. Inside, the works are in good, bright condition, with a touch of darkening / foxing to the pages. Slight worm damage (not affecting text) to one volume. Paris: Masson et Cie, 1901. This work on orthopaedia, published in 1901, was part history of orthopaedics, and part medical corset catalogue. It stated that it included 98 gravures, but most of these are black and white vignettes. The work contained 11 full colour lithographic plates engraved by LARTAUD and printed by Geny-Gros. A scarce item, the best example seems to be that of the Wellcome Collection (K30262). They also show the same 11 plates. The plates are in good, clean condition, with just a touch of foxing spots here and there. The reverse shows where each has been removed from the original book. The leather is a little rubbed and the gilt faded. Slight cracking to the hinge, but holding well. Complete with three engraved plates (two folding). All three of the engraved plates are found in this, the first of the two volumes. Engraved capitals and end pieces. Internally in good clean condition, in a good, tight condition. Man Ray's face is clean shaven on one side of his face, and has a beard on the other side of his face. As the poster folds it reveals different views. Amsterdam, 1986 / 2017. Five black and white digital prints - after Ilford negative 1986. Signed in pen and pencil by the photographer (on reverse side). The 4 photo-diptychs and 1 photo show Haring at work, discussing his work, drawing and surrounded by ghetto blaster, cassette tapes, and spray cans. Printed on matte 300 gms paper. In 1986, New York graffiti artist Keith Haring was invited to exhibit by the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. He was also asked to spray a velum with his characteristic 'playing men'. This velum has been shown again recently at the Stedelijk Museum. Photo press followed Haring at work, and these images are part of a photo shoot with Chris Reinewald, then journalist for 'Plug' - a cultural youth magazine.
