The sales occurred between September 1853 and October 1854. The appendices list the blocks and properties, the buyers, the dates, and the prices for sales and for re-sales, and a summary of the revenue by sale date. OCLC lists only the three copies at the Huntington Library, Harvard Law School, and Saint Patrick's Seminary & University.

Bound accordion style with printing on one side only and with the final leaf tipped onto the back of sturdy caeboard, quarter-bound in natural thick linen, the sides covered in decorated paper with printing by Sayenko. Top and bottom edges uncut, pastedowns of grey paper, title page in red and black with a small cut of a cat, most of the text in black with some phrases in red, cuts throughout in multiple colors. Unpaginated, with two additional fold-out leaves tipped in.
Enclosed in publisher's cardboard slipcase covered with white paper.

CONDITION: The first three are very good-near fine -- clean, tight copies with only very minor edge-wear. The fourth is similar internally, but covers are lightly toned, with a small bit of rubbing in lower front.

The book i s clean and tight with no interior defects. Back cover is perfect . Front cover has some light rubbing along top edge and left side by the spine. Dust jacket has a 1" closed tear and a 2" crease o n the bottom of back. All in all a very nice attractive copy. .

Seward's first address to the Senate was one of his most influential orations and immediately established him as a national antislavery leader. 1st ed. 8vo, 16 pp., Disbound from a larger volume; no outer wrappers.
Seward acknowledged that the Constitution's framers had recognized slavery's existence and protected it where it existed, but the new territory was governed by a "higher law than the Constitution" -- a moral law established by "the Creator of the universe." Opposing all legislative compromise as "radically wrong and essentially vicious," Seward demanded the unconditional admission of California as a free state.
CONDiton: Good; a clean copy overall but disbound from a larger volume and the pages starting to separate at left edge, which also shows rough trimming. First and last pages lightly toned; several of the pages were printed off-center, although the text is fully present.

A short story prompts children to count and imitate sounds of animals as they climb up and down a ladder.Although the initial print run was reasonably high [75,000] this counting book was an immediate success and sold out instantly. "Ladder" was promptly reprinted with an almost unprecedented circulation of 200,000 copies. The book has since been republished numerous times with different artists and remains in print. While simple in concept and design, because of its continuing popularity this first printing is a particularly desirable title. Despite the high press run, only one copy in WorldCat; several copies of the 2d and later printings. This is the only book for children by Elizabeth Shabad.
