A solid copy to boot of the stated 1959 1st American edition. Tight and VG+ (just a bit of foxing at the endsheets and pastedowns) in a bright, price-intact, VG dustjacjket, with spotting along th flaps and very light creasing and chipping along the panel edges. Still though, a very presentable copy of this, "the thrid of Mr. Eliot's plays to have been produced with great success at the Edinburgh Festival before opening in London."

Cambridge, England: The Rampant Lions Press, 1996. Decorative Boards. Fine. An immaculate copy of this lovely 1996 fine press edition of Eliot's "Four Quartets". Published out of Cambridge by the Rampant Lions Press in an edition of 200 copies, this copy is marked at the limitation as #72. A clean, Fine folio, in its patterned boards and its deckled fore and bottom-edges. And housed in a pristine copy of the unprinted salmon card slipcase. Also includes not only the publisher's original prospectus but also a handwritten letter (on The Rampant Lions Press letterhead) from Sebastian Carter, the book's designer and printer, to T.S. Eliot's legendary American editor (at both Harcourt, Brace and Farrar, Straus and Giroux) Robert Giroux. A wonderful association and provenance.

London: The Egoist Press, 1917. Original wraps. Very Good. The 1917 true 1st edition, limited to 500 copies, of T.S. Eliot's first published book. A slim, fragile volume physically but one that set the poetry world ablaze upon publication. Seen as a seminal bridge toward Modernism, Eliot's voice in this debut work is an exemplar of stream of consciousness and foretells his exalted place --along with that of Ezra Pound's-- in Modernist sensibilities. Solid and VG in its unassuming beige wrappers, with one small closed tear and very light scuffing and soiling along the panels. Light chipping as well --with about 30% loss-- along the spine. Internally, the text is very clean, the pages bright-white. Small, neat signature at the foot of the title page ("Mitchell Dawson", Chicago poet and patron of the arts, 1890-1956), otherwise no markings internally to speak of. 12mo, 40 pgs. Also includes a handsome custom box (blue cloth, green leather title label).

Solid and VG in its light-blue boards, with fading along the spine and a touch of very light soiling to the panels. Lacking the dustjacket. Octavo, edited by W.H. Auden. #49 in the formidable "Yale Series of Younger Poets", which also included the first books published by James Agee, Muriel Rukeyser and Adrienne Rich, among others.

London: G. Bell and Sons, 1909. Decorative Cloth. Collectible; Very Good. 1909 1st thus, a collection of 4 of W.S. Gilbert's Savoy operas (Pirates of Penzance, Patience, Prinecess Ida and The Yeomen of the Guard), lavishly illustrated by the great Russell Flint. VG in its original red cloth with bright, unflecked gilt design and lettering to front panel and spine. One narrow, light band of dampstaining running vertically from top edge to bottom. Still, a perfectly presentable copy. Quarto, 208 pgs. 31 color illustrations, deckled fore-edge and bottom edge. Gift inscription on front free endpaper and tasteful former owner bookplate to inside cover.

Tight and VG+ in its pictorial green cloth, with bright gilt along the front panel and ;lightly-rubbed gilt-lettering and insignia along the spine. Folio, all edges gilt, decorative endpapers. The Dore engravings complement the text --written in its fraktur-- beautifully.

A solid example of the 1933 1st thus, complete in 2 volumes and slipcase. #957 OF 1,500 COPIES ISSUED SIGNED BY THE ILLUSTRATOR ENRIC C. RICART at the limitation AND "PRINTED ON GUARRO PAPER BY OLIVA DE VILANOVA IN BARCELONA". Both volumes tight and VG in their patterned dark and yellow boards over red cloth, with mild darkening along the spines and a very small closed tear along Vol. 1's spine crown. Quartos, deckled fore and bottom-edges, wonderful etched illustrations throughout by Enric C. Ricart. The 2 volumes housed within a Good only example of the publisher's printed slipcase, with the top panel missing and light wear along the bottom-edges and at the foot of the spine. Still though, presentable and very functional in its protection of the 2 volumes.
