Born in England, Ian Sabey (1906-1985) arrived in Australia in 1924 and became a journalist for the South Australian newspaper The Advertiser. These poems were written while he was a prisoner-of war in Germany, during the Second World War. From 1946 he was publicity for the airline T.A.A. and in 1979 he wrote the company history, Challenge in the Skies: The Founding of T.A.A..
