First edition in book form of the first Dickens biography. Octavo. Original buff printed wrappers. Light edgewear. Otherwise, a very good copy of a scarce and fragile item. The journalist Sala had been on the staff of the "Daily Telegraph" since 1857; he had in fact been that publication's special correspondent to the American Civil War. He wrote an essay on Dickens for the "Daily Telegraph" issue on June 10, 1870.--The day after Dickens died. He was then encouraged to amend it for book publication, which he did ("amplified to four times its original length," according to it's preface). Gene Sarazen Signed Photograph and Signed Score Card SARAZEN, Gene. Gene Sarazen Signed Photograph and Signed Score Card. Georgia: 1935. Black and white photograph signed "Gene Sarazen" in black ink on bottom. (Measures 9 3/4 x 7 1/2"). Photograph of Sarazen alone on the course, dropping one of his putts that leads him to the Masters in Augusta, Georgia on April 9th, 1935. He is surrounded by elegantly dressed spectators as he sinks his putt into the 9th green during his thirty-six hole play off. Catching up to Craig Wood who wholed a 4-wood second shot on the par-5 15th for a double eagle. Sarazen parred in from there then beat Craig Wood in a playoff the following day. The double eagle is "the shot that was heard around the world" and is one of the most famous single golf shots in history.
