Germany: Author, [Late 18th early 19th century]. First Edition. Vellum. Very good. 8vo(17.4 x 10.2cm) Original vellum; soiled and chipped. Collation: [127], [7-calendar] leaves. There a 66 original pen and ink drawings of full plants with root system (often uncolored) There are 3 uncolored and 63 hand colored drawings of plants in the text. These plants are generally well done and appear to be copies from Leonhard Fuchs or others with modification to fit small space in upper left corner of page. Text begins at top of page adjacent to drawing. This manuscript is a collection of writings and prescriptions by Schein for treatment of different ailments. Schein was most likely a pharmacist who kept hand written notes over a period of a number of years and then had the leaves bound together in this volume. More recent owner was Paracelsus Apotheke in Berlin. Ink signature of Hans Hennecke present beneath stamp. This stamp is on paste down for each cover.

The spine has green morocco label with author, title and date in gilt. Collation: [iv] 1-126 [2-ad for present book by Le Begue] pp. + 3 folding copper engraved plates. There is repair to the title page where a portion of the lower right corner is missing. A piece of light brown paper has been pasted on the verso of the title page and the fore edge reinforced with a strip of paper on verso. This is a large paper, uncut copy that is very clean. The only exception is a brown paper flaw on p. 13/14 at the lower edge of the last text line. There is a repair to a tear into the plate area of the second plate.
