Description:
This is a near-perfect copy of six collected novels by the great British military novelist C.S. Forester (1899-1966). This book is now approaching rare status. It includes The Ship, Mr. Midshipman Hornblower, The Earthly Paradise, The General, The Captain From Connecticut, and the African Queen. These books cover both world wars, the War of 1812, the Napoleonic Wars, Christopher Columbus' voyage of 1497, and the African Queen, made famous by the film starring Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn. They also introduce the reader to the famed Horatio Hornblower. This is a large book--861 pages. Minor wear to the edges of the dust jacket. The edges of the pages are darkening a little. One dogear. Otherwise pristine.

Description:
This is a first edition, first printing, of Peony, by the American writer Pearl S Buck (1892-1973) who, in 1938, became the first American woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. Upon its publishing, it was simply title 'Peony'. In later editions, it was released as Peony, a Novel of China and as The Bondmaid.
It was published in 1948 and is set in the 1850s in the city of Kaifeng, in the province of Henan, which was historically a center for Chinese Jews.
The novel follows Peony, a Chinese bondmaid of the prominent Jewish family of Ezra ben Israel's, and shows through her eyes how the Jewish community was regarded in Kaifeng at a time when most of the Jews had come to think of themselves as Chinese.
I'll include the dust jacket but it is in two pieces and I doubt that you can repair it.
The book is perfect. It may have been read, but there isn't a mark in it or on it. It's in mint condition.

Description:
This is a first edition of The Fleet That Jack Built: Nine Men Who Made a Modern Navy, published in 1931. Copies of this book are rare; most of the ones available are from the 1962 US printing.
It was written by Rear-Admiral Sir William Scarlett Jameson (1899-1966).
It is the story of the nine brilliant men whose efforts created the Royal Navy that dominated the 19th century, the Far East and two world wars—in spite of opposition from politicians: Admirals Wilson, Beresford, Fisher, Scott, Jellicoe, Beatty, Tyrwhitt, Keyes and Keppel. 'Jack' in the title refers to Admiral Fisher.
The front endpaper is first signed by the woman who owned it in 1962, then it was given to someone in memory of Jameson, in or after 1966, apparently by one of his relatives (see photo).
344 pages, no jacket—it likely never had one. The cover could use cleaning—you can do that with a little Absorene. The inside is perfect.

His 1954 novel The Spider King is a biographical novel of Louis XI and his struggle to create a mighty nation from a weak medieval France.
Louis XI (1423-1483), was King of France from 1461 to 1483. He succeeded his father Charles VII, but not before trying to unseat him. His love of spinning webs of plots and conspiracies earned him the nicknames 'The Cunning' and 'The Spider'.
This is a First Edition and the Book Club Edition of the book, published by MacMillan in 1954. It is plain beige boards with purple lettering on the spine.
The dust jacket has lots of shelf-wear but it has done its job. There are no marks of any kind in or on the book.

Description:
Peveril of the Peak (1823) is the longest novel by Sir Walter Scott. Along with Ivanhoe, Woodstock and Kenilworth, this is one of Scott's English novels, with the main action taking place around 1678.
Julian Peveril, a Cavalier, is in love with Alice Bridgenorth, a Roundhead's daughter, but both he and his father are accused of involvement with the Popish Plot of 1678. Most of the story takes place in Derbyshire, London, and on the Isle of Man. The title refers to Peveril Castle in Castleton, Derbyshire.
This copy is one of the pre-WWI editions published by Thomas Nelson & Sons.
It is navy blue faux leather with brilliant gold lettering on the spine.
There's an attractive signature on the front endpaper. There's creasing to pages 203-211 and a little bit of wear at the back.
Lovely little book though -- 4" x 6", 756 pages.

This is one of the Nelson's Classics, published in the 20s by Thomas Nelson and Sons. This particular copy was printed in the UK, with the UK price on the dust jacket. It was sold, for .75, by Spencer's department store in Vancouver, which operated from 1926 to 1948. The price tag is still on the inside back cover. It is already half off; you can re-attach it, or remove it.
Green cloth cover over a book in perfect condition. There are no marks of any kind in or on the book. It has not been read; the spine has not been cracked. All of the pages are clear, clean and bright. The only marks on the cover are shelf-rubbings at the top and bottom of the spine. The lettering on the spine is brilliant gold.
The dust jacket has more wear, as you can see. It's a lovely bright orange, with cream lettering. There is some soiling to the right side of the dust jacket, but I just ran an eraser over it and it came right off.

Description:
This is a first edition of Byron of the Wager, written by the British historian Peter Shankland in 1975.

The wreck of the Wager stands next to the mutiny on the Bounty
as one of the most powerful and gripping stories in maritime history. The HMS Wager was a square-rigged Royal Navy ship of 28 guns, which was detailed to accompany George Anson in his famous 1740 voyage in search of Spanish treasure ships. Wrecked in the terrible weather in the middle of a Patagonian winter, many of the ship's crew survived (including the future grandfather of Lord Byron) but there were terrible personal tensions. Incredibly, the two sides managed to work together to get themselves home. Five years later, nine out of 300 reached England after adventures and privations that tested the limits of human endurance.

This copy is in mint condition. There is a small tear to the dust jacket and a little fading to the dust jacket (which is unclipped).
The book itself is pristine.
