Contemporary full mottled calf, smooth back divided into six panels , morocco author label to second panel, volume label to third, remaining panels with central flower device and smaller flower corner pieces, covers with triple fillet border, gilt roll to edges and inner edges, all edges gilt, french curl marbled endpapers. Author label to volume one faded, spines slightly faded, slightly rubbed to extremities, head of volume one chipped with small amount of loss. Internally bright and clean, previous owners' book label and shelf mark labels to front pastedown. Engraved frontispieces to each volume. Dibdin II:455, Moss II:645, Brunet V:636, 'bon texte'. [16], 436pp. Later (mid-nineteenth century) full morocco, raised bands, spine in six panels, author / title in gilt to second, remaining panels with gilt central diamond made up of four tulip heads, with volute corner pieces, covers with central panel design with volute internal corner pieces and floral external corner pieces, gilt roll to edges and inner dentelles, a.e.g. comb and curl marbled endpapers. Very minor rubbing to extremities, internally some light browning and spotting but generally fairly clean. Previous owners bookplate to front pastedown, with another previous owners name to head of title, engraved frontispiece. Binding is J[ohn] Clarke, with his stamp to reverse of front marbled endpaper, who was described by Ramsden as "one of the best and most prolific of the London binders of the period". Wing T422. Reprint. Full Morocco. Very Good. 8vo.

Slightly rubbed, a couple of corners bumped, spines slightly faded, lower cover of volume one has a couple of small black marks, lower cover of volume two has some damp staining. Internally a couple of ink marks to fore-edge, ffep of volume four has some mathematical workings, but generally quite bright and clean. A decent set. Reprint. Full Calf. Good. 12mo.

Chelsea: Ashendene Press, 1930. [2], 363pp, [1]. Full original pigskin by the W. H. Smith bindery, raised bands, spine in six panels, author and title to first panel, translator's name to second, publisher and date to foot. Spine slightly soiled, patch of discolouring to fore edge of lower cover, one or two small marks, page edges lightly browned, but generally internally quite bright and clean. Now housed in a cloth slipcase made by Temple Bookbinders. One of two hundred and eighty copies (with twenty on vellum), printed in Ptolemy type, with red side-notes in Blado italic, and red initials from the alphabet designed by Eric Gill for 'Utopia'), on Ashendene knight-in-armour paper. The opening line of each of the eight books was designed by Graily Hewitt, and is also printed in red.
