Very Good. 8vo. 1st edition. 243 pages + good appendix which includes a tract on the Lancashire witches + detailed index. This is a fascinating book containing much information on old Lancashire including a significant section on punishments - legal and popular. This large paper edition contains a very lengthy list of subscribers, a sort of who's who of Lancashire society. There is a good portrait of John Harland used as a frontispiece and a short inscription at the top corner of the title page (dated 1874). One page has a small tear repaired with old Sellotape at the bottom 1/2 inch. Internally very clean and bright but some pages have some very light damp staining at the bottom corner. The book has been nicely rebound in beige buckram with leather spine and title label done in the traditional style. The binding shows no wear. Very Good. A very substantial book.
