Nationalist themes echo throughout the collection, infusing each poem with autobiographical elements and granting her poetry a lyrical-biographical essence.<br /> <br /> Olena Teliha (1907-1942) was a Ukrainian poet, publicist, and nationalist leader, born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and later emigrating with her family to Czechoslovakia. Influenced by the Ukrainian émigré community, she married Mykhailo Teliha and taught in Warsaw before contributing to nationalist journals and societies. During World War II, she resisted Nazi collaboration and was arrested and executed by the Gestapo in Kyiv.
