Description:
Berlin: Die Gestalten Verlag, 2011. Softcover. Fine. Flexicover, 160 pp., full color, including an index. In recent years, the boundaries between art and design have become more and more blurred. Today, it is not the object itself, but rather its economic functionality that determines its categorization. Astonishingly, it is often customs officials who subjectively decide what constitutes art and design based on their personal views and erratic local tax laws. A provocative read.

Description:
Philadelphia: Theodore Presser, 1915. Softcover. Very Good. Approx. 4" x 8"; 15 pp. each; Illustrations. Yellow wrappers; titles and illustrations in red and black. The grouping consists of one book for each of the following composers: Beethoven, Chopin, Grieg, Hadyn, Handel, Mozart, Wagner, Mendelssohn, Schubert, and Tschaikowsky [sic]. The booklets are personalized by the students who completed them. Ownership names are charmingly inscribed on the first page and written exercises are present throughout the booklet. Each page of text also contains one or two spaces for cut-out illustrations to be glued in. Most booklets also include a written summary of the composer's life on the last two pages. The former owners performed these tasks very nicely. This is a neat bit of early 20th century advertising by the music publisher Theodore Presser Co., which encouraged music education.
