Description:
(U2). Parkyn, Geoff, Editor. U2 MAGAZINE: ISSUES NUMBER 2, 8, AND 11. London, UK. 1982, 1983 + 1984: U2 Info Service, First Editions. 8vo. Stapled Pictorial Wrappers. Music Fanzines. Very Good - or Better. 12 + 12 + 12pp, illustrated in monochrome. Between 1981 and 1985, Londoner Geoff Parkyn under the guise of the U2 Info Service published sixteen issues of his reverent "U2 Magazine." Preceding the band's own official publication, "Propaganda", this DIY labor of love was devoted to disseminating the latest news and views on all things Bono, The Edge, Larry Mullen Jr., and Adam Clayton. A broken run of three issues of this uncommon post-punk document - No. 2 - February 82, No. 8 - August 83, and No. 11 - Summer 84 - showing some light staining and insect damage. (UKLANSKI, PIOTR). Brown, Gavin, Jacek Petruczenko & STAH Z WARTY (Stanislaw) Szukalski. PIOTR UKLANSKI: BIALO-CZERWONA. New York: Gagosian Gallery, 2008. First Edition. 4to. Debossed Linen Over Boards. Artist Monograph. As New/No Jacket - As Issued. 152pp, profusely illustrated in color. Designed by An Art Service. This is the charming hardbound catalogue published in conjunction with the first Gagosian Gallery solo exhibition by Polish-born, New York-based artist Piotr Uklanski. "Bialo-Czerwona" (white-red), referring to Poland's bi-colored flag, is a nationalist slogan as familiar to Poles as "Red, White, and Blue" is to Americans. Uklanski's title unites diverse works that engage typical imagery of his native Poland and play on the red/white palette. Although it is, on one level, authentically Polish, in its use of populist decorative traditions and political symbols alluding to the country's not-so-distant Communist past the exhibition is also a highly… Read More

(UTAMARO, KITAGAWA). Utamaro, Kitagawa. UTAMARO: NO UTAMAKURA / UTAMAKURA: SECRET PRINTS BY UTAMARO. Tokyo: Gabun-Do, 1970. First Edition 1/500. Oblong 4to. Cloth in Illustrated Slipcase. Artist Monograph. Very Good -/No Jacket - As Issued. 147pp, 16 color and 122 b&w illustrations. Text in Japanese. This is a monograph on the renowned Japanese Ukiyo-E master Kitagawa Utamaro's Late Eighteenth Century erotic masterpiece "UtaMakura (Poem of the Pillow)". Reproduced here are the original twelve color woodblock prints as full page hand-tipped color plates, with one small quirk. Published in 1970, in keeping with Japan's then strict censorship laws the scenes depicting exposed genitalia have each been photographed with an orange rice-paper square covering the offending area. All of the reproductions of the explicitly graphic Shunga throughout suffer from the same fate. Still, this is obviously a very detailed and scholarly study of Utamaro's erotic prints. A most handsome… Read More
